The 2025 Hurricane Season…What Is Known a Month Before the Start?
La Nina dominated the 2024 hurricane season in the Atlantic basin. Expectedly, the season was well above average with 18 named storms and 11 hurricanes. What made the season memorable was two very destructive major hurricanes – Helene and Milton. In fact, the season in total was the third most destructive on record. Global ocean-atmosphere condition have changed since last fall, with La Nina relaxing and neutral conditions (neither La Nina or El Nino) currently. Our expectation for the 2025 hurricane season is normal to slightly above normal activity. However, beyond just the total number of storms, we will be tracking any threats to land. It only takes one storm to cause far reaching impacts.
